Our 'Yayoi Kusama' inspired Art work, by Mrs Perry

Date: 9th Mar 2026 @ 12:38pm

We had to choose a troll design (linked to our 'Three Billy Goats Gruff' text) and then carefully trace the outline. We then used a cotton bud to create polka dots like our Artist ‘Yayoi Kusama’ we used brightly coloured paint to express ourselves and make each piece of art unique.

SKILLS:

Tracing supports artistic development by helping children practise controlled movements while experimenting with different lines and patterns.

Creativity and self-expression: Children explore colour, patterns, and design while creating their artwork.

We created a display to showcase our FANTASTIC art work!

Using a variety of everyday objects, they make predictions, test their ideas, and talk about what they notice. These playful experiments help to develop early scientific thinking, encouraging curiosity, problem-solving, and new vocabulary such as “float,” “sink,” “heavy,” and “light.” Through exploration and discussion, children build confidence in asking questions and sharing their discoveries.

DT: Planning and Making Boats, by Mrs Perry

Date: 29th Jan 2026 @ 8:49am

In Reception, our children love exploring how things work through hands-on play and investigation. As part of our learning, the children planned, designed and created their own boats using junk modelling materials such as boxes, bottles and cardboard.

The children talked about their ideas, chose materials carefully and worked together to build their boats. They then tested them in water, watching to see which boats floated and which sank. This led to lots of excitement, problem-solving and thoughtful discussions about why some designs worked better than others.

Through this activity, the children developed creativity, curiosity and early science skills, while also building confidence, teamwork and resilience. Most importantly, they had lots of fun learning through play!

Transient Art, by Mrs Perry

Date: 28th Jan 2026 @ 4:26pm

Transient art is a creative and playful way for children to explore art using natural and everyday materials such as leaves, stones, shells, fabric and loose parts. Children are encouraged to arrange, design and redesign their creations, developing imagination, problem-solving skills and fine motor control. Because transient art is temporary, there is no pressure to make a finished product, allowing children to express themselves freely, collaborate with others and enjoy the process of creating. This open-ended approach supports curiosity, communication and a love of learning while helping children to connect with the world around them
