Autumn 2

After a busy first half term, we are glad to be back and we are working harder than ever! This half term we have two school trips and class 4H have their class assembly on Thursday 27th November, so we look forward to seeing some parents/ carers coming to watch!

This half term we will be looking at the successes of the Ancient Egyptians in History and we have an exciting visit to Manchester Museum to do a workshop on artefacts from Ancient Egypt. In science, we have the electrifying topic of Electricity. The children will be getting stuck into practical work, building their own circuits and lighting up mini-light bulbs, as well as understanding the importance of being safe and thinking about conserving resources.

We are pleased to announce that this year, once again, Year 4 will be taking part in Rochdale’s Linking Network Programme. This will involve visits with and to our linking school in Heywood. This year, our first meeting with the children and staff from St Luke’s Primary will be at the M6 Theatre, where we will watch a show together.

In English, we will be looking at some Japanese poems that involve lots of syllable counting! We will be moving onto a book about Tutankhamun and another one about a very clever black cat.

Multiplication and Division will be our big focus in Maths. We will also be consolidating our addition and subtraction knowledge with 4 digit numbers and multiple exchanges.

In R.E we will be exploring what Hindus believe God is like, exploring Aum and Brahman.

In DT we will be designing and creating money containers, where they will practise their sewing skills to join pieces of material together.

Swimming will continue on Monday mornings again this half term and we will be moving onto Dance in PE on Tuesdays for 4H and Fridays for 4R. Please can we remind that swimming kits need to be brought in every Monday morning and PE kits should be left in school for lessons! Black pumps or black trainers are the only acceptable footwear for outdoor PE lessons.

Thank you for your continued support.
