Year 2K 2024 - 2025

Miss Kyte

Welcome to 2K

Please keep an eye on this page for updates throughout the year.

Welcome back to the final term of Year Two! We have a very exciting term planned with lots of great activities and learning ahead. We will be enjoying our last trip of Year Two to Springfield Park. At Springfield Park we will be able to share our new learning all about bees and pollination!

This half term, in English, we are going to be reading ‘Pirates Next Door’, by Jonny Duddle. Have you ever read a pirate book? I wonder what will happen? We will spend time exploring the illustrations, asking questions about the characters, writing our own descriptions and we will end by writing our very own pirate story! I can’t wait to hear your ideas!

In Maths we will revisit place value, placing numbers on a number line, fractions, time and solve reasoning questions. We will continue with our ‘Mad Minutes’ weekly challenges and hopefully you will be awarded with the Mad Minutes certificate!

Our Science topic is ‘Bees and Pollination’. We will also gain lots of knowledge about this from our school trip. We will look closely at the life cycle of a bee and study their purpose in the world. What is an eco-system? We will also be learning lots of new scientific vocabulary! It is time to do History this half term and we will be studying past and present explorers. Have you ever heard of Christopher Columbus? I wonder what qualities you need to be an explorer?

In RE our new topic is ‘What makes places sacred to believers?’ Within this topic pupils will find out about various places of worship and why they are important to believers. We will focus on the key features of Churches, Mosques and Synagogues learning about how they can vary with different traditions.
