Welcome to Reception!
Spring 1:

Welcome back to another fun filled half term, we hope you hope you had a great break, making lots of memories together and are ready for another exciting half term in Reception!
This half term our topic is ‘Journeys’, we will start by learning about Penguins with our non-fiction text ‘Hello Penguin!’ The children will explore facts about penguins, learning how to listen for information and talk about what they have found out. Our next story will be ‘Lost and Found’ recognising a winter journey and friendship. We will then move onto the story ‘The Naughty Bus’ and we will be looking at different landmarks found in London. The children will be having lots of fun learning about Winter as we go on our half termly season walk.

In Maths we will be learning all about length, height and time as well as recapping our knowledge with one more and one less. We will also begin to describe 3D shapes and notice them in our environment both indoors and outside.
This half term our RE topic is, ‘Why is the word God so important to Christians?’, we will be learning all about the creation story and how we can look after God’s world. The children will be busy painting God’s creations, writing prayers to thank God and starting a litter pick in our outdoor area to look after God’s world.

Our PE lessons are on Mondays and Fridays, please encourage your child to practise dressing themselves at home, this will really help them to become more independently and be able to dress themselves confidently for PE.
Please continue to encourage your child to use their phonics when reading at home, we are so impressed with how the children are doing.
Our PE lessons will be on Mondays and Fridays, please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school and each item is named.
Any questions - please do ask on drop off/pick up or contact the office.
Thank you for your support,
Miss Sheldon
