We were delighted to welcome the Shades Team into school to lead a special collective worship celebrating Black history. Through engaging stories, music and thoughtful discussion, the children learned about inspirational Black figures and the important contributions they have made to our world. The session encouraged curiosity, respect and reflection, helping pupils to understand the value of diversity and the importance of treating everyone with kindness and fairness. It was a meaningful and uplifting experience enjoyed by children and staff alike.

Year 1 had a fantastic time at the National Emergency Services Museum! We were able to learn lots of new and interesting information about the Great Fire of London. The children asked some excellent questions and had a super fun time.

Today we were baking bread in year 5! We used our plans where we decided upon what our bread's purpose was, how we would meet that purpose and added any additional flavours we had decided with our groups. we had lots of fun and got stuck into trying it, it was very tasty but some of us thought of very good ways to improve for next time

On Monday we celebrated Eid together. We had a lovely assembly in the morning all about the celebration and then we had cake and juice in class while we completed some beautiful pieces of artwork and also some mendhi patterns

Last week we had Lucy come in from Nelson Street Church to complete some Easter themed craft workshops. We looked at how to craft the Roman invention of the catapult and also created some Easter themed board games! Lots of fun!

We went to visit quarry bank mill this half term to look further into our children in the Victorian times topic. We had looked previously at the work children were made to do in these dangerous and unpleasant factories and year 5 saw first hand how terrible the conditions were for the children who lived and worked at quarry bank. We had the opportunity to join in with some of the tasks they were made to do and we saw their living arrangements in the apprentice house

We have had the best time celebrating World Book Day the past couple of weeks! We looked amazing in our costumes and also had a super time with our guest author Ian Bland. He was extremely funny and helped us write some amazing poetry of our own!

Today we were delighted to welcome the wonderful poet Ian Bland to our school. He performed and shared some of his fantastic poetry with the children before working with each year group to help them create their own poems.
The day was filled with creativity and laughter, and the children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to explore poetry in such an engaging way. To finish the day, many pupils proudly showcased their poems during a special assembly. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved.

Year 1 had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day! They all made a fantastic effort with their costumes and really enjoyed working out who all the teachers were in the Masked Reader.
They also practiced their drawing skills and joined in a draw-along to create a very hungry caterpillar!

Reverend Pam joined us for a wonderful collective worship focused on this half term’s core value of perseverance. She shared the Bible story of Peter walking on water, highlighting how he showed perseverance in the face of difficulty. The children reflected on how we can learn from this story and demonstrate perseverance in our everyday lives.
Shades Team with Manchester Diocese, by Miss Healey

Today we had a visit from the lovely 'Shades' team with Manchester Diocese. They gave a collective worship to the whole school with singing and lots of learning about being an ally to others and ensuring we are always treating everyone equally. We then had a super workshop with the team where they came to our classroom and taught us the power of language and how positive and negative language can affect our relationships. We used compliments to make others happy and learnt about the words that can be used to harm others and why they're so damaging.

This half term Year 5 have been looking at physical programming, connecting a chip called a 'crumble' to battery packs, LEDs, motors and switches. We then use computers to program the crumbles to carry out actions. We are having lots of fun with this unit

Our new topic in RE is 'What Does it Mean to be a Muslim in Britain Today?', we have been looking at all aspects of the Muslim faith including the features of a mosque. Today we went to Neeli mosque and had a lovely time learning all about the Islamic faith. We learnt about the five pillars of Islam, traditional outfits, wudu, and the history of the Muslim people. It was amazing and the children loved seeing their learning brought to life!
Rochdale Council Recycling Lesson, by Miss Healey

This week, Year 5 had a special visitor, Nigel Goulding, Environmental Education Officer at Rochdale Borough Council. Nigel told us so much information, from what items go in each coloured bin, to what actually happens to our recycled waste to create something new! We looked into how we can reduce the amount of waste we create; reuse items that can be repurposed; recycle ones that cannot and recover energy from our General Waste by burning it and harvesting electricty from the heat. We are now enviroment champions and we will be taking all our learning home so we are doing our best always for our environment.

Last half term, we made musical instruments! We have worked so hard on this unit, looking into existing instruments, seeing which area make sound and how. We have researched traditionally made instruments as well as instruments for certain cultures. The children partnered up, designed the instrument they wanted to make and then used recycled items to create their final product!
Investigating formation of fold mountain ranges 5H, by Miss Healey

We are looking at the Alps in our Geography topic this half term and today we were looking into how mountain ranges came to be. We used coloured salt dough to demonstrate how the movement of tectonic plates can create pressure which eventaully can cause the sediment to buckle and rise up, forming fold mountain ranges.
KS2 - Christmas Sing-a-Long, by Miss Hulse
