Ordsall Hall, by Miss Hirst

Date: 11th Jun 2025 @ 5:24pm

We have had a lovely day today at Ordsall Hall! At the start of the day we were introduced to Lady Agatha Radclyffe and Martha the Maid. They taught us all about traditional Tudor feasts including the Lord, Lady and their friends, the jester, the local merchants and the farmers. Lady Agatha then took us to learn all about Lord Radclyffe's work as both a knight and the sheriff. We were able to try on some armour and learned the punishment for crimes. We then made our own purfume pouches just like the Tudors would wear, filled with lavander, clove and rose. Martha the Maid took us outside to pick some lavender for her and then in groups we had to grind down salt and pepper, grate nutmeg and cinnamon and mix together with ginger to make a special seasoning in the kitchen. It was hard work! The day ended learning some traditional Tudor dances!

In Science today, we used the sensometer to measure the brightness of the bulb. We saw this from the sensor moving to a larger number, for example 73 lux and went to 350 lux. The things that effected the data collector was if we added more batteries to brighten the bulb or moved the bulb closer to the sensor. The equipment could also measure sound and temperature.
