We were delighted to welcome the Shades Team into school to lead a special collective worship celebrating Black history. Through engaging stories, music and thoughtful discussion, the children learned about inspirational Black figures and the important contributions they have made to our world. The session encouraged curiosity, respect and reflection, helping pupils to understand the value of diversity and the importance of treating everyone with kindness and fairness. It was a meaningful and uplifting experience enjoyed by children and staff alike.

Reverend Pam joined us for a wonderful collective worship focused on this half term’s core value of perseverance. She shared the Bible story of Peter walking on water, highlighting how he showed perseverance in the face of difficulty. The children reflected on how we can learn from this story and demonstrate perseverance in our everyday lives.

This half term, Year 2 have been learning about instructions in English. They explored the key features of instructional writing and how to write clear, step-by-step instructions. To finish the unit, the children followed a set of instructions to make their own delicious jam tarts.

We had a wonderful visit this morning, from the Shades from the Diocese. Their theme this year is 'Standing firm in power and pride. Standing firm on God's word and celebrate that we are all uniquely made in the image and likeness of God. Jesus stood firm in truth and justice, showing us how to live boldly, faithfully and in community with one another. We celebrate the stories of hope and courage, shining God's light with our Christian faith being the catalyst to lasting change.'

This half term, our computing topic is Robot Algorithms. This week, pupils have been using algorithms to program sequences on a floor robot. Working with a partner, they created different algorithms and then tested them by directing their floor robot around a picture map. They throughly enjoyed using the bee- bots.

In our recent art lesson, we introduced our new topic by exploring patterns found all around us. The children discussed patterns they could spot in our school environment and thought about how these could inspire their artwork. We then went outside to investigate further, using a range of materials to create textured rubbings from different surfaces. Afterwards, we shared and discussed our work, reflecting on what we found easy and what we found more challenging during the process. This hands-on lesson encouraged observation, creativity, and thoughtful discussion. Well done year 2, an excellent start to this topic.

Year 2 took part in an exciting Design and Technology lesson linked to our Bonfire Night theme. The children explored food technology by learning about traditional bonfire treats and discussing how foods are prepared safely.
To bring the theme to life, the class made their very own s’mores, using biscuits and marshmallows. The children carefully followed instructions, helped prepare the ingredients, and enjoyed warming their marshmallows over a small “campfire”. They were thrilled to see their s’mores melt together and loved tasting the results of their hard work.

Year 2 had a fantastic day out at Eureka! Children’s Museum this week. The children spent the day exploring the museum’s interactive galleries, discovering how everyday things work, experimenting with hands-on science activities, and enjoying the chance to play and learn in a new environment.
A highlight of the trip was taking part in a special workshop called 'The Gross Lab'. During this session, the children learned all about the human body in a fun and engaging way. They investigated how different body systems work, explored some brilliantly “gross” scientific facts, and took part in activities that brought their classroom learning to life.
The pupils represented the school beautifully and returned full of excitement, new knowledge, and plenty of stories to share. It was a memorable day that supported their science learning and sparked lots of curiosity!

This week, Year 2 have been learning the story of Jesus and the Ten Lepers. We focused on the Christian value of thankfulness and discussed how one of the lepers showed gratitude while the other nine did not. The pupils were fantastic at re-enacting the story in groups and then freeze-framing key moments to show the characters’ emotions through their actions and expressions. Good acting year 2!

Today we have the most amazing trip. We went to see the Lovell telescope at Jodrell Bank. We learnt so much information about Earth, Space and the planets! We went on a virtual tour of space in the Space Dome which was mindblowing!

In Nursery, we are always developing our communication, language, and literacy skills. We talk with our friends as we independently choose our learning, and every three weeks we explore a new topic book. We take part in activities such as retelling the story, creating story maps, and labelling pictures with our names.
We also enjoy making up our own stories and bringing them to life using musical instruments and actions. Throughout the classroom, there are plenty of opportunities for writing in all areas. Each week, we learn new vocabulary linked to our current topic.

In computing this week, Year 2 children have been learning about how information technology helps us in our daily lives. They explored and recognised different types of technology, such as computers, tablets, and smartboards. The children also learned how IT devices can work together, for example, how a computer connects to a printer or the internet. Finally, they discussed the reasons why we use IT, such as to communicate, learn, and have fun.
Pupils learnt how barcodes work and used pretend barcodes to purchase items.

In Geography, Year Two have been learning all about the seasons and the weather. As part of our lessons, we made our very own wind vanes using pencils, straws, cardboard, and Blu Tack. We carefully assembled the different parts so that the straw and cardboard arrow could turn freely in the wind.
Once our wind vanes were ready, we took them outside to test how well they worked — and they were a great success!

This term, Year 2 have been exploring the work of artists Henri Matisse and William Morris, both of whom were inspired by natural objects. They have produced artwork using natural objects from the school gardens and used different materials/ fabrics to create a collage representing natural objects. This week, the children practised sketching and shading natural forms, and they did a fantastic job showcasing their creativity and attention to detail.

Year 2 had a wonderful day celebrating Learn, Love, and Grow Together Day, a special event that reflects the core values and ethos of our school. The children enjoyed a range of creative and calming activities, including designing and making their own kites, which they later flew with great excitement outdoors. They also created beautiful sand art jars and took part in peaceful meditation exercises.
It was a joyful and meaningful day for all!

Year 2 have thoroughly enjoyed their recent DT topic, Winding Up. As part of the topic, they explored a variety of wind-up toy styles before designing and creating their own unique versions. Using different materials and applying skills they’ve learned—such as sawing—the children worked creatively and with great enthusiasm to bring their toys to life.

Year 2 had a fantastic time celebrating St Peter's Day! They started the day with a worship assembly delivered by Rev Anne and then they watched an amazing magician, created their own imaginative St Peter's keys, and even enjoyed a special visit from the ice cream van.

Year 2 enjoyed a fantastic educational visit to Springfield Park, where they took part in a range of activities. Throughout the day, the children had the opportunity to plant their own seeds, explore different types of flowers, and take part in orienteering challenges that encouraged teamwork and problem-solving. One of the highlights of the trip was the beekeeping experience. Pupils were thrilled to dress up as beekeepers and learn about the fascinating process of pollination and honey production. They demonstrated great enthusiasm and courage as they took on their roles and worked together brilliantly during the activities.
