This week, I have been lucky enough to go around all of the classes and watch all of the wonderful maths learning that is taking place in our school. The children were all really engaged and loving their learning.

Reverend Pam joined us for a wonderful collective worship focused on this half term’s core value of perseverance. She shared the Bible story of Peter walking on water, highlighting how he showed perseverance in the face of difficulty. The children reflected on how we can learn from this story and demonstrate perseverance in our everyday lives.

Standing firm in power and pride, by Miss Hulse

We had a wonderful visit this morning, from the Shades from the Diocese. Their theme this year is 'Standing firm in power and pride. Standing firm on God's word and celebrate that we are all uniquely made in the image and likeness of God. Jesus stood firm in truth and justice, showing us how to live boldly, faithfully and in community with one another. We celebrate the stories of hope and courage, shining God's light with our Christian faith being the catalyst to lasting change.'
 
A fantasic Collective Worship, enjoyed by all! 

A Fantastic Visit from 'Shades' - Black History, by Mrs Perry

We were delighted to welcome the Shades Team into school to lead a special collective worship celebrating Black history. Through engaging stories, music and thoughtful discussion, the children learned about inspirational Black figures and the important contributions they have made to our world. The session encouraged curiosity, respect and reflection, helping pupils to understand the value of diversity and the importance of treating everyone with kindness and fairness. It was a meaningful and uplifting experience enjoyed by children and staff alike.

 
 

Year 1 Computing, by Miss Weller

This term Year 1 have been learning all about programming robots! We began our term by using commands with our friends and then our Bee-Bots. We have learnt how to programme our Bee-bot to move forwards, forwards, left and right! Well Done Year 1! :)

Today Year 1 performed an excellent assembly explaining clearly how Jesus was loving and a good friend! The children read their lines beautifully and did some fantastic singing. Well Done Year 1!

This morning, we all had a very festive time in our carol cencert. We sang beautiful songs that reminded us all of the true meaning of Christmas.

Year 1 had an exciting trip to Legoland today! We took part in a Get up and Dance workshop where we used cogs to turn our dancing lego minifigures. We went on the rides at Legoland and experienced the 4D cinema. We all had such a fun day!

This week Year 5 began our poetry topic in English! We are studying The Walrus and The Carpenter by Lewis Carroll. Today we focused on performing the poem using our reading aloud skills and focusing on rhythm and rhyme with a few actions splashed in there!

Today we have the most amazing trip. We went to see the Lovell telescope at Jodrell Bank. We learnt so much information about Earth, Space and the planets! We went on a virtual tour of space in the Space Dome which was mindblowing!

In Nursery, we are always developing our communication, language, and literacy skills. We talk with our friends as we independently choose our learning, and every three weeks we explore a new topic book. We take part in activities such as retelling the story, creating story maps, and labelling pictures with our names.

We also enjoy making up our own stories and bringing them to life using musical instruments and actions. Throughout the classroom, there are plenty of opportunities for writing in all areas. Each week, we learn new vocabulary linked to our current topic.

Computing in Year 1, by Miss Weller

This term we have been learning about technology by using both computers and iPads. The children practised their mouse and keyboard skills, including clicking, dragging, typing their names, and using the arrow and delete keys. They used a drawing program to create digital art on the iPad and learned how to open and save their work. We also had important discussions about using technology safely and respectfully, thinking about rules that help us stay safe and healthy when using devices at school and at home.

Year 1 English, by Miss Weller

This term, we have been learning all about instructional writing! We explored what instructions are, why they are useful, and where we might find them in everyday life. We focused on using time connectives to show the order of steps and imperative verbs to make our writing clear and direct. After practising as a class, we worked in groups and then independently to write our own set of instructions on how to make a jam sandwich. To finish our learning in the tastiest way possible, we followed our instructions to make real jam sandwiches - and of course, Year 1 enjoyed eating them too!

Science - Everyday Materials, by Miss Weller

In Science, the children have been learning about 'Everyday Materials'. As part of this topic, we used our woodland walk to explore and identify different materials in the natural environment. The children enjoyed discovering what different things were made from and discussed the properties of materials such as wood, metal, plastic, and fabric. They showed great enthusiasm and curiosity, using their observation skills to spot a range of materials and think about why they are used for different purposes.

RE - Who do Christians say made the world?, by Miss Weller

As part of our RE learning, the children have been exploring the question, "Who do Christians say made the world?" Together, we learnt about the Christian creation story and the celebration of Harvest. The children showed great curiosity as they explored the school's fruit and vegetable garden, one of God's creations, making links between nature and thankfulness. They also discussed the different foods we might share at Harvest time and reflected on the importance of gratitude. As part of this topic, the children wrote thoughtful prayers, expressing appreciation for the world around them and the gifts it provides.

Macmillan Coffee Morning, by Miss Weller

On Friday, it was Macmillan Coffee Morning. Year 1 generously brought in biscuits and £1 donations for this incredible cause. The children really enjoyed their juice and biscuits with their friends!

Last Friday, Year 1 enjoyed Live, Love, Grow Together Day. The children took part in an exciting treasure hunt, we made picture frames with positive affirmations and enjoyed party games with excellent prizes! Well Done Year 1 :)

Year 1 has had a wonderful celebrating St Peter's Day! They started the day with a worship assembly delivered by Rev Anne and then they watched an amazing magician, created their own St Peter's drawings, and even enjoyed a delicious visit from the ice cream van!

Blackpool Zoo Trip, by Miss Weller

Our Year 1 trip to Blackpool Zoo was so much fun! We had a great time exploring the zoo and seeing lots of amazing animals. We spotted lions, monkeys, giraffes, and even some penguins. Everyone was excited and full of smiles as we walked around. It was a brilliant day out, and we learned so much about the animals and their habitats!

Year 1 has enjoyed learning all about VE Day and its importance in history. The children were fascinated by the stories from the past and showed great enthusiasm in exploring how the end of World War II was celebrated. They took part in a range of lovely activities, including making bunting and designing medals. Well Done Year 1!

Well done to all of 1CW this morning during their class assembly! I was really impressed with how well they all learnt their lines and spoke clearly as well as some pupils acting! All of Year 1 are super proud of you :)
