We did our first class assembly on the 19th of May all about SPECIAL PLACES!
Our families were invited to watch us too!

3H in Blackpool! Our coastlines trip 20.05.22, by Miss Healey

We had such a wonderful time in Blackpool! We saw so many underwater creatures that inhabit our coastlines. We learnt a cool trick where if the glass was cold to touch that meant the animals lived in our UK waters, if it was slightly warmer, they didn't. It was very interesting comparing these animals' features. We found Phoenix the sea turtle and learnt that despite being 24 stone, she was just a baby! (A 22 year old baby because sea turtles can live to over a hundred years old!) We then went out to the beach, we saw some of the tourist attractions and other things that bbring people to the coast. We found loads of cool seashells and brought them back to school, then we watched as the tide came in. We had so much fun!

In Nursery we have been planting potatoes and sunflowers. We are learning what plants need to grow and how to look after them. We need to give them lots of water to help them grow.
Our completed frog life cycle! Year 3, by Miss Healey

Last half term we began our frog life cycle with putting frogspawn in our pond and keeping some in our classroom to observe over the next few weeks. We noted lots of changes and watched as our frogspawn became tadpoles, then froglets with hind legs, fore legs and finally a distinguished head. Once we came back after the Easter holidays, we found the tails of our froglets had disappeared and our tiny little frogs were sat on the rocks out of the water breathing air! We then went to our pond, placing them gently back in their natural habitat. Hopefully we will get new frogspawn next Spring to fully complete our cycle. Take a look at our little frogs!
EYFS and KS1 'Washing the Feet' Collective Worship Service, by Mrs Andrews

Today we learnt about Maundy Thursday and why Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. Mr Whelan and Mr Wood washed 12 children’s feet to show us how we can show kindness to other people, just like Jesus did.
Stations of the Cross Service - April 2022, by Mrs Cavill

This morning Reverend Anne and Father Darren came to school to watch and take part in our Stations of the cross service. Children from each year group read a reading and a prayer for eac station. Reverend Anne and Father Darren lit a Paschal candle to remind us that Jesus was resurrected on Easter Sunday. He gave His life to save us all. We wish you all a Happy Easter.
4J Cornet Concert - April 22, by Mr Jolly

Over the last three months, 4J have been learning to play the cornet. They built up their initial skills by learning individual notes of C, D and E. Then they learnt to play songs with one note and then multiple notes. Finally, they learnt another note - B flat - in order to play and sing the well known song - The Eye of the Tiger.
The concert today was the culumiation of their hard work with Mr Merter. They played and sung six different pieces of music:
1. Cha Cha Cha
2. William Tell
3. Boogie Shoes
4. Limbo Rock
5. Achy Braky Leg
6. Eye of the Tiger
Well done on your performance. KS2 and the parents who attended thoroughly enjoyed it.

We got to watch the yellow, fluffy chicks hatch in their incubator and then we got to hold and stroke them. They were very cute!

Year 6 have had a fantastic week joining in with all the Easter celebrations that have been happening in school. We took part in the KS2 Easter Egg challenge, were pupils decorated a hardboiled egg into some fantastic designs! We also had the opportunity to hold the chicks in the school hall – they were so cute!
Cornets-February, March 2022, by Mrs Cavill

Year 4 have been learning the cornets with Mr. Murtah from Rochadle Music Service for the last ten weeks. They have been practising for a concert that takes place, Thursday 7th April. 4J's concert is at 1.30pm in the school hall and 4C's will start straight after at 1.45pm. All parents are very welcome.

4J's assembly was on the theme of Trust and Betrayal in the lead up to the Easter Story.
Romans Chester Trip, by Mrs Gill

The children had a fabulous day out when they went to The Grosvenor Museum to learn more about the Romans. They had a chance to look at real life artefacts and visit the galleries. 3G had a workshop where they got to find out what life was like for a Roman and even dressed up as Romans too. They got to be part of a Roman army and march around Chester with a real life Roman soldier who showed them some drills and some battle strategies. A great day had by all.

What an amazing afternoon the children had doing the Oliver Twist Workshop. They learned about the story, then acted out specific scenes from it.
Chester Romans Trip 3H 11.03.2022, by Miss Healey

We had a fantastic time in Chester. We looked at real Roman artefacts and lots of museum galleries. We had a workshop where we got to act out and find out lots of things as well as dress up like the people of that time! We even got to meet a Roman soldier! We marched around the streets of Chester with him dressed as Roman soldiers. We went to the real Roman amphitheatre in Chester and practised some army drills where we saw and recreated the Roman army's battle strategies!
World Book Day Workshop 07.03.2022 3H, by Miss Healey

We had so much fun hearing the story of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. We acted out and did some freeze-frames of some of the scenes and created an orchestra of workhouse sounds!

Today we went on our first trip...we went to Smithills farm to support our learning all about farm animals!
We had a action packed day, this is what we did:
-Petting corner, we held and fed the baby animals in the farm
-Tractor ride, we visited the horse and donkey at the top of the hill and we fed them bread!
-Milking palour, we watched the cows being milked and learnt all about the importance of caring for the cows, we also discussed the process of how the milk gets from the cows to our houses
-Feeding the adult animals, we fed the sheep and goats with food
-Riding the donkey, we all got a turn to ride the donkey
of course we had a little play at the park!
We had a fantastic day out!

This year for World Book Day,Year One focused on the book 'The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark' by Jill Tomlinson. We focused our activities around this book and worked on our acting skills through freeze frames, hot seating and small sketches of the owl meeting different people. Last week we went to the Eureka! museum. We looked at how the human body works and took part in the Gross Lab workshop. We had so much fun using all of the interactive exhibits and discovering lots of new facts.

On Friday, Year 4 caught up with the rest of the school and we had our World Book Day celebrations. We started the day with some drama games to get us into working in groups and building our confidence to speak and act. Mrs Freeman gave Year 4 the book, "Voices in the Park," by Anthony Browne. This book is about four gorillas, a mother, a father,a son and a daughter from different backgrounds. We had lots of fun looking at pictures of the characters and deciding what kind of person they would be, what they would say, how they would talk. We created our own little scenes and acted them out, before we even read the book. Well done 4J, I was very impressed with your group work today. You worked co-operatively and listened realy ell to each other.
Your costumes as always were fantastic-thanks to parents and carers!
