In Literacy, Reception have been learning about instructions and how to follow them. The children read instructions together on how to make star biscuits for our Space topic. They really enjoyed making them into star shapes and they even had a sweet in the middle. They tasted delicious!!
3B Pirate Science!, by Miss Ball

In 3B we had a problem to solve! Two pirates were stranded on an island and could not reach their ship… We investigated buoyancy, density and also thought about the properties of materials! The class made their own flotation devices and we tested their effectiveness.

In Reception this half term we have been learning about the topic Space. We have a role play 'Space rocket' where we have been dressing up as aliens and astronauts. We have been painting pictures of aliens, making masks and also making rockets with the junk modelling materials. We also looked at a rocket launching into space, we learnt about the planets and watched the first man land on the moon. We then wrote invites to a space party, which will be happening soon. Reception have had lots of fun so far and there is still even more to come!

This week in Maths we have started to look at pattern making. The children used cubes to make repeating patterns with two or more colours. They worked with a partner too. Through the week we will be making repeating patterns with different objects. Even jelly beans!!

On Friday 2nd December Mr Jolly took three children from Year 5 to Manchester Museum. Here they enjoyed a fantastic workshop, where they completed lots of experiments and thought like scientists.

As part of our R.E topic this half term, we have been learning about other countries and how they celebrate Christmas. To help us learn more about this we thought of lots of questions we wanted to ask a class in America and we got to Skype this class to ask our questions.
The best bit was when they sang 'Jingle Bells'!

On Monday Year 3 and 4 visited St. Peter's Church, where Stephen told us all about the Christmas Story.
We sang carols and said some prayers.
Stephen told us about a special "Free" event at St. Peter's Church with games activities prizes and treats! He said everyone is welcome on December 18th.

We all had great fun at our Christmas Fair on Thursday 1st December! There were lots of fun activities, stalls and tombolas! Father Christmas came and children could have their face painted, nails decorated and even make magic reindeer food! A big thank you to everyone who helped and all who came and made this event such a success!

We visited Balderstone Library to see all the wonderful books they have there. We listened to stories and then looked at and read the books ourselves.
