Geography Biome Fieldwork, by Mrs Gill

Date: 26th Jan 2022 @ 10:30pm

Our Geography topic this half term is about Climates and biomes of the world.  One of the biomes the children  looked at this week has been  our deciduous forest biome and the temperate climate. To understand the climate better we took a walk around the Woodland Walk and the school grounds, looking at the deciduous trees, how they change colour and lose their leaves based on which season it is, plants and animal life  ( flora and fauna ) which may be living there too.  They  understood the reason that there wasn't much plant life was because of the Winter season and that the animals were hibernating.Although they did spot a few birds in the trees.

Geography biome fieldwork 3H, by Miss Healey

Date: 26th Jan 2022 @ 4:11pm

This half term we have been looking at climates and biomes of the world. This week we looked at our temperate climate and our deciduous forest biome. We looked at the deciduous trees (trees that change colour and lose their leaves based on the season) in our school grounds. We also looked at the signs we have for the flora (plant life) and fauna (animal life) and thought of reasons we may not have been able to spot many of these. We decided upon the weather, most of the animals would be hibernating this time of year and the plants will begin to grow in the Spring/Summer time - we linked this back to our climate being temperate. We did make sure we walked super quietly though and we managed to spot a few birds native to our climate! Take a look at some of our pictures.

Today we went on a snowy walk! We were so excited to see the snow and we decided to wrap up warm and explore!

This half term we have been learning all about seasons and exploring the signs of autum, we were shocked to see some signs of winter appearing early! We discussed how some animals find this weather too cold, therefore they hiberanate!

The children loved exploring our snowy outdoor area and we all enjoyed the 'crunch' of the fresh snow under our feet!

4J visit M6 Theatre, by Mr Jolly

Date: 16th Nov 2021 @ 3:45pm

Today, Tuesday 16th November, 4J visited M6 Theatre to have their first linking schools meeting with St Joseph’s (Heywood). First, they were split into two groups, cuckoos and hedgehogs. In these groups, they then met a randomly assigned partner to work with throughout the day. After the introductions and some games, the two groups came together and watched a production called Mavis Sparkles.

It was the story of a cleaner with an extraordinary story to tell. Mavis was on a journey north to see nature’s biggest light show with her own eyes. With a cleaning trolley full of secrets and surprises, and a little help from Spike the hedgehog, Mavis moved ever closer to making her dream come true. It featured a heart-warming mix of illusion, animation and captivating performance. This life-affirming production inspired us all to think about being brave, dust away doubts and reach for the stars!

After lunch, they were split into their two groups and worked on freeze framing feelings, some of which were experienced during the performance. The afternoon concluded with a group freeze frame of people’s wishes for the world including: ending homelessness, being kinder to the environment and stopping violence.

They were extremely well behaved and I know 4J are looking forward to meeting Class 9 again both at St Peter’s and when visiting St Joseph’s at some point in the Spring term.
