In Reception, the children explore the exciting concept of floating and sinking through hands-on water play and investigation both indoors and outdoors. Using a variety of everyday objects, they make predictions, test their ideas, and talk about what they notice. These playful experiments help to develop early scientific thinking, encouraging curiosity, problem-solving, and new vocabulary such as “float,” “sink,” “heavy,” and “light.” Through exploration and discussion, children build confidence in asking questions and sharing their discoveries.
