Today we have been making "Containers." We have looked at containers through the ages,ancient and modern and designed our pot to hold something. Next week we will paint and decorate. Watch out for finished product in a couple of weeks.

This term we have been learning how to write alogorithms for some new hardware we have in school. The new equipment involves pieces called, " Crumble and Sparkle." Despite Mrs Cavill calling it a "Crimble," 5C have been doing incredibly well. This week our circuit included a crimble, a sparkle, a motor and a wheel. We had to program the circuit to spin with a paper disc on the top. See the results in our photos.
Mosque Visit- January 2026, by Mrs Cavill

On Tuesday morning Year 5 walked to Neeli-Mosque. We had a guided tour around the Mosque led by Samar and his colleague. We learned about The Golden Age of Islam, the origins of some mosque and the features of a mosque. Some children tried on mosque clothes and we all got to see the large blue dome and minaret. The mosque also provide us with a biscuit and juice before we walked back to school.

On Wednesday 14th January, Nigel Goulding from Rochdale Council came to talk to us about how we can help to improve the planet by recycling correctly. Not sure what to put in which bin? Ask 5C, they are now experts!

KS2 did an amazing job this afternoon, performing their Christmas sing-along. The children told the story of the nativity, with some wonderful action and singing. We are all so proud of you!

This week Year 5 began our poetry topic in English! We are studying The Walrus and The Carpenter by Lewis Carroll. Today we focused on performing the poem using our reading aloud skills and focusing on rhythm and rhyme with a few actions splashed in there!

5C had a supersonic visit to the enormous telescope at Jodrell Bank. The telescope collects radio waves and studies outer space. We had an amazing time and 5C were super well behaved.

Today we have the most amazing trip. We went to see the Lovell telescope at Jodrell Bank. We learnt so much information about Earth, Space and the planets! We went on a virtual tour of space in the Space Dome which was mindblowing!

In Nursery, we are always developing our communication, language, and literacy skills. We talk with our friends as we independently choose our learning, and every three weeks we explore a new topic book. We take part in activities such as retelling the story, creating story maps, and labelling pictures with our names.
We also enjoy making up our own stories and bringing them to life using musical instruments and actions. Throughout the classroom, there are plenty of opportunities for writing in all areas. Each week, we learn new vocabulary linked to our current topic.
Nelson Street Church - October 2025, by Mrs Cavill

Today we visited a new place of worship. We went to Nelson Street church and participated in a service, led by Lucy. We watched a Bible story about the courage of Queen Esther, sang hymns and said prayers. The new church was warm and welcoming and we all enjoyed our visit.
Learn, Love and Grow Day 2025, by Mrs Cavill

Today. Year 5 boarded the tram to St. Peter's Square in Manchester to give out handpainted pebbles and gifts of choclate hearts. This was part of our Learn, Love and Grow day to perform random acts of kindness, in the hope that we will make someone happy. The children behaved beautifuly. They were polite, had good manners and were kind.

Pioneers Museum- July 2025, by Mrs Cavill

On Wednesday 2nd July 5C visited Rochdale Pioneers Museum on Toad Lane. This building is the original Co-op shop. The very first one in the whole world. We learned lots about the pioneers and how they wanted to bring fairness and equaltiy to the people of Rochdale. The pioneers were so succesful they are now a worldwide corporation. Whilst we were there, a coachload of visitors arrived to visit the museum, from the Phillipines. Yes, Rochdale is THAT famous! We should be very proud of our home town.

On Wedneday 14th May, Year 5 travelled to fabulous Chester Zoo. We have been studying animals of the Rainforest in Geography and life- cycles in Science. As always the children were impeccably behaved.

As part of our Biology topic on plants in science, today we went outside to look at the shapes and structures of plants. Back in the classroom we will discuss the function sof parts of the plant. Our school grounds has many different varieties of plants ranging from wild plants such as, daisies and dandelions to garden plants like daffodils and forget me nots. We also have lots of fruit plants growing, such as, strawberries, gooseberries and rhubarb.
