We were delighted to welcome the Shades Team into school to lead a special collective worship celebrating Black history. Through engaging stories, music and thoughtful discussion, the children learned about inspirational Black figures and the important contributions they have made to our world. The session encouraged curiosity, respect and reflection, helping pupils to understand the value of diversity and the importance of treating everyone with kindness and fairness. It was a meaningful and uplifting experience enjoyed by children and staff alike.

David Attenborough's 100th Birthday, by Miss Robinson

Today, we celebrated David Attenborough's birthday and all of the amazing things which he has done! We had an assembly this morning telling us more about him. Then, we spent the day doing lots of fantastic activities. We read the book 'Nelson's Dangerous Dive' which was all about the problems of ghost fishing and whales. Using this knowledge, we then created our own fact files on whales! Next, we had to finish a picture of a whale, there are definitely some future artsts in year 4! We also had to channel our inner David and create a voice overs!
Linking Project, by Miss Robinson

Today, we had our linking project visit from St Luke's where they came to visit us at our school. When they first arrived we had some time to play some games to get to know our partners. We then had a fanastic session with an artist where we learned lots of different techniques and created tiles together! We had a picnic lunch and a lovely walk around the woodland walk. In the afternoon, we had our session with a rapper! Touchstones brought a painting by Lowry and we had to create a character based on this. We then created our own raps about our characters. We had such a lovely day and cannot wait to see our linking partners again!

Today, we have been learning about actions in our french lessons! We learnt how to say 'What are you doing?' and how to respond. We played some true or false with statements, before learning a song and adding some actions. We had lots of fun. Bravo Year 4!

Year 1 had a fantastic time at the National Emergency Services Museum! We were able to learn lots of new and interesting information about the Great Fire of London. The children asked some excellent questions and had a super fun time.

Today, we had a visit from Erik Erikson, a real life viking! He showed us some fantastic artefacts including swords, spears and sheilds. We even got to try on some viking clothing and armour. We created our own battle cries and took part in a viking court. We had so much fun!

Our topic this half term in Computing is 'Data Logging'. Today, we used our data loggers to go outside and measure the light, sound and temperature of diffferent locations around the school. We will then be using this data to create graphs.

Today we were delighted to welcome the wonderful poet Ian Bland to our school. He performed and shared some of his fantastic poetry with the children before working with each year group to help them create their own poems.
The day was filled with creativity and laughter, and the children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to explore poetry in such an engaging way. To finish the day, many pupils proudly showcased their poems during a special assembly. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved.

Year 1 had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day! They all made a fantastic effort with their costumes and really enjoyed working out who all the teachers were in the Masked Reader.
They also practiced their drawing skills and joined in a draw-along to create a very hungry caterpillar!

This week, we joined 170 countries and celebrated Safer Internet Day. The focus this year was all about the safe and responsbile use of AI. We had some fantastic discussions in class about this and how we can keep ourselves safe, who our trusted adults are and can we always trust what AI tells us. We joined the BBC live lesson on SID and created our own AI chatbot. We then tried to spot which images were real or AI genereated.

Today was our class assembly all about Hinduism. We have been learning all about Hindu culture, gods and godesses and all about the Hindu festival Diwali during our RE topic and wanted to share this with the rest of the school. 4R were all fantastic and should be super proud of themselves! Reverend Pam joined us for a wonderful collective worship focused on this half term’s core value of perseverance. She shared the Bible story of Peter walking on water, highlighting how he showed perseverance in the face of difficulty. The children reflected on how we can learn from this story and demonstrate perseverance in our everyday lives.

This morning, Year 4 had a walk to follow the journey of the River Roch. On the way to the River Roch, we walked along the canal. When we arrived at the River Roch, we were upstream nearer to the source and we followed the river flow downstream. We spotted fast flowing water, like rapids, and a sign warning people of the danger of this. We saw flood barriers/defences near to the important building of Riverside. Here, there was also a steep riverbank. The water depth varied and we could spot the rocks of the river bed in some places. One interesting part of the River Roch is that is goes underneath part of the town so it felt like we could walk on water! Well done year 4 for walking so sensibly today!

Today, we have been learning all about the water cycle. We were then challenged to draw the water cycle inside of a rain drop. These will then be displayed in the classroom. Miss Robinson was super impressed with our work!

This half term, we are focusing on coding in computing. This week we got to explore using turtle academy to try and code our turtle to make digits on the screen. We could only move forwards and backwards, and turn left and right so this was quite challenging!
