We were delighted to welcome the Shades Team into school to lead a special collective worship celebrating Black history. Through engaging stories, music and thoughtful discussion, the children learned about inspirational Black figures and the important contributions they have made to our world. The session encouraged curiosity, respect and reflection, helping pupils to understand the value of diversity and the importance of treating everyone with kindness and fairness. It was a meaningful and uplifting experience enjoyed by children and staff alike.

Last week in maths we looked at position and direction. We went outside to carry out different activities where we had to use positional language and directions to one another. We used terms such as clockwise, anti-clockwise, half turn, quarter turn and full turn.

Year Two greatly enjoyed starting their new computing topic called 'Programming Quizzes'. They used the Scratch programme and tested different things that you can do on Scratch. Next week we will begin to look at sequences and commands within technology.

On Friday 8th May, we celebrated the 100th Birthday of Sir David Attenborough. The children had a fantastic day learning about his life and how his work has impacted our lives.
The day started with an assembly explaining who he was, what we can learn from him and what we can do as individuals to be more like him. Each year group got a different book which explored the theme of a particular animal being engdangered due to our actions and exploring what we can do to recitify this and turn it around.

This morning, Reverend Pam led our collective worship all about our Christian Value for this half term, service. We learnt about different types of service and agape. Reverend Pam told us the story of Ruth and we explored how this showed service to others. We also looked at the modern day example of Mother Teresa and how she showed service to so many different people.

Thank you to Lucy from Nelson Street Church who taught a wonderful workshop to Class 2K all about Jonah and the Whale. The children created a comic strip of the story and then were able to decorate their very own snapband whilst focusing on the story for their designs! The children loved this session!

Year 1 had a fantastic time at the National Emergency Services Museum! We were able to learn lots of new and interesting information about the Great Fire of London. The children asked some excellent questions and had a super fun time.

Today we were delighted to welcome the wonderful poet Ian Bland to our school. He performed and shared some of his fantastic poetry with the children before working with each year group to help them create their own poems.
The day was filled with creativity and laughter, and the children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to explore poetry in such an engaging way. To finish the day, many pupils proudly showcased their poems during a special assembly. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved.

Year 1 had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day! They all made a fantastic effort with their costumes and really enjoyed working out who all the teachers were in the Masked Reader.
They also practiced their drawing skills and joined in a draw-along to create a very hungry caterpillar!

Reverend Pam joined us for a wonderful collective worship focused on this half term’s core value of perseverance. She shared the Bible story of Peter walking on water, highlighting how he showed perseverance in the face of difficulty. The children reflected on how we can learn from this story and demonstrate perseverance in our everyday lives.

We had a wonderful visit this morning, from the Shades from the Diocese. Their theme this year is 'Standing firm in power and pride. Standing firm on God's word and celebrate that we are all uniquely made in the image and likeness of God. Jesus stood firm in truth and justice, showing us how to live boldly, faithfully and in community with one another. We celebrate the stories of hope and courage, shining God's light with our Christian faith being the catalyst to lasting change.'

On Thursday we did our Year Two Class assembly all about New Beginnings. We focused on the celebrations of New Year and talked about the traditions that many of us have around this time such as making New Years resolutions, singing Auld Lang Syne and counting down at midnight. We also looked at all of the exciting things that we have to look forward to in the year of 2026 such as the Mens Football World Cup, a full solar eclipse and lots of exciting new movies! We described Bible stories that relate to new beginnings and how they can symbolise a fresh start. We looked at examples of this such as Noah and the Ark and Moses leaving the Egyptian Palace. The children were incredible in their class assembly and did themseleves proud!
Year 2 Art- Patterns around every corner, by Mrs Bradley

In our recent art lesson, we introduced our new topic by exploring patterns found all around us. The children discussed patterns they could spot in our school environment and thought about how these could inspire their artwork. We then went outside to investigate further, using a range of materials to create textured rubbings from different surfaces. Afterwards, we shared and discussed our work, reflecting on what we found easy and what we found more challenging during the process. This hands-on lesson encouraged observation, creativity, and thoughtful discussion. Well done year 2, an excellent start to this topic.
