Year 2H 2021 - 2022
Welcome to Year 2!
Welcome back to a brand new year and hopefully one that is a bit more normal than the last! The children have settled in well and are enjoying learning lots of new things.
What will we be learning?
In maths, we will begin by using our knowledge of place value to add money amounts. We will then move onto number bonds to ten and twenty.
We will also be doing a weekly 'MAD MINUTES' sessions, where the children are timed whilst completing their times tables. Ready, steady, get practising!
In English, we are focussing on the book 'Prince Cinders’. This book is a traditional tale with a twist, can you guess the traditional tale? The children will be asking questions, making predictions, creating character descriptions and eventually writing their own version. Towards the end of this half term, we will look at a non-fiction and a poetry unit.
In Geography, our topic we will be discussing the question ‘What are Seasons?’ The children will look at different weather patterns and how this changes throughout the UK.
Our Science topic is 'Materials Matter'. We will consider the use of materials for different products with a focus on absorbency. The children will carry out an investigation to see which material is the most absorbent.
In RE, we will be focussing on the topic 'Jesus, a Friend to Everyone'. Our learning will be focussed around many ‘Big Questions’ and we will be discussing how we can use the teachings of Jesus to be a good friend to others.
