Welcome back after the half term break! We are so excited about this half term as we lead up to CHRISTMAS!

Let's have a look what we will be learning this half term.

What will we be learning?

Maths

In maths we will be furthering our knowledge and skills in:

  • Units of measurement
  • Counting in steps of 2,5 and 10
  • Multiplication
  • Addition and subtraction
  • Space and shape

We will also be doing a weekly 'MAD MINUTES' sessions, where the children are timed whilst completing their times tables. Ready, steady, get practising! 

English

In English, we are focussing on the book 'The Cherry Tree Farm', by Enid Blyton.

We will;

  • Look closely at the illustrations, and make inferences 
  • Write character and setting descriptions
  • Write in the role of the characters
  • Ask and answer questions
  • Retell the story
  • Innovate the story

 

We will also explore the topic of 'Remember, Remember the 5th November' and create a variety of non-fiction texts, which links to our history topic.

History

In history, we are going to be learning about 'Remember, Remember the 5th November'. We will study the following questions;

  • Why do we celebrate bonfire night?
  • What was the gunpowder plot?
  • Why did Guy Fawkes want to kill King James 1?
  • Was Guy Fawkes a hero or a villain?
  • Why do we STILL celebreate the 5th November?

We will end with a BIG FINISH - WHY ALL THE FUSS?

                                                                                       

Science

Our Science topic is 'Everyday Materials'. We will be building on our learning from Autumn 1, learning more about materials, their properties and what they are best used for. In this unit we will:

  • Explore different materials, touching and describing them using new words 
  • Carry out experiments, such as testing which materials are waterproof
  • Learn more about man-made and natural materials
  • Learn scientific vocabulary such as; transparent, opaque, smooth, rough, investigate, predict

RE

In RE, we will be focussing on the topic 'Christmas - Why was the birth of Jesus so important?'. Our learning will be focussed around ‘Big Questions’ such as;

  • How is good news delivered?
  • Who passes on good news?
  • Why was the birth of Jesus good news?
  • Why is this news so important?
  • What difference did it make to the world?
  • How did the good news spread further?
  • How is this good news told today?
  • How is this good news celebrated today?
  • The news is very old, how can it still be good news?
  • What do angels do?
  • What do angels look like?

                                                                                     Important reminders

  • PE kits must be in school every day 
  • Book bags must be in school every day
  • Spelling and mad minutes should be practised everyday 
  • Try to read with your child everyday and ask them questions about the book they have read
  • Homework is given out on a Friday and handed in every Thursday
