6H Science - January 2020, by Miss Hulse

Date: 21st Jan 2020 @ 5:27pm

Year 6 carried out an experiment today, to understand the process of diffusion and osmosis.

The children added water to Jelly Sweets and recorded as the size of the sweets increased. The children understood that once broken down, the nutrients within food is absorbed through the walls of our intestines into the blood in a process called diffusion. Water doesn’t need breaking down, it simply moves between membranes in the body to arrive in the correct place, again via our blood through a diffusion process called osmosis.

Year 6 - Science - January 2020, by Miss Hulse

Date: 15th Jan 2020 @ 1:06pm

Year 6 carried out an experiment today, to understand how nutrients and water are transported around the body in the blood.

The children added water to Skittles and recorded as the colours ran. The children understood that this similar to humans getting nutrients from food (the colour from the Skittles represents the nutrients). Once broken down, the nutrients is absorbed through the walls of our intestines into the blood in a process called diffusion
